ABOUT GATE EXAM:
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India entrance Examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee). It is conducted every year in the month of February. The GATE Score/Rank is mandatory for admission into and/or financial assistance to Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture in IISc, IITs and other prestigious Institutes / Universities in India. The GATE Score is also used by many PSUs for the recruitment of candidates into prestigious jobs with attractive salary packages.

- Several reputed Maharatna, Miniratna and Navratna PSUs and research organizations recruit on basis of GATE Score. i.e. NTPC, IOCL, BHEL, PGCIL, BARC, CSIR etc.
- Teaching: Professor, Asst. Professor at IITs, NITs and other reputed educational institutes and also you can teach for GATE and ESE aspirants with good remuneration.
- You can get a financial aid of RS 12400/- per month in the form of MHRD scholarship once u got admission through GATE score.
- Junior/Senior Research Fellow: ISRO, DRDO, BARC, CSIR, IITs etc.
- Scientists “C” grade jobs.
- Plenty of opportunities in research & development after post-graduation/doctorate.
- Some international universities (Singapore & Malaysia) offers M.S or Ph.D programs on the basis of GATE Score.
ABOUT GATE 2021:
1. IIT Bombay is the organising institute for GATE 2021.
2. GATE 2021 will be conducted on 27 subjects (also referred to as “papers”).
3. Examination for all the 27 subjects (papers) will be conducted as ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT).
4. The online examination paper may contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using a virtual keypad.
The remaining questions will be of
(i) Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type, where only one option out of four options is correct and
(ii) Multiple Select Question (MSQ) type, where one or more than one options out of four
options is/are correct.
5. The Candidates will use ONLY an on-screen virtual calculator provided
for the examination.
6. A candidate can appear in ANY ONE or UP TO TWO papers of the GATE examination.
However, note that the combination of TWO papers in which a candidate can appear MUST be from the pre-defined list.
7. Examination for some of the papers in GATE 2021 may be held in multiple sessions.
However, a candidate will be mapped to appear for the examination in ONLY one of the
multiple sessions of the same paper.
8. Validity of GATE score is for three years.
NEW IN GATE 2021:
1. Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social
Sciences (XH) are two new papers introduced in GATE 2021.
2. All Test Papers of GATE 2021 will be entirely objective type. Pattern of questions may
include (i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), (ii) Multiple Select Questions (MSQ),
and/or (iii) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
3. ONE or TWO subject papers allowed. TWO Paper combinations have to be chosen from
the given list of combinations of papers. Final allotment of TWO papers will still be
subject to availability of infrastructure and dates.
3. Eligibility criteria is relaxed. A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher
years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government
approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science /
Commerce / Arts is eligible to appear for GATE 2021 examination.

REVISED EXAM PATTERN FOR GATE 2021:
GATE 2021 will contain questions of three different types in all the papers:
(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections. These questions are objective in nature, and each will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to select (mark) the correct answer.
Negative Marking for Wrong Answers: For a wrong answer chosen in a MCQ, there will be negative marking. For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
Radio button will be provided to choose the best possible answer from the given options.
(ii) Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections. These questions are objective in nature, and each will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to select (mark) the correct answers. (2 or 3 or all are correct answers).
Check box will be given to select the correct answers.
NOTE: There is NO negative marking for a wrong answer in MSQ questions However,there is no partial mark for choosing partially correct options.
(iii) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections. For these questions, the answer is a signed real number, which needs to be entered by the candidate using the virtual numeric keypad on the monitor (keyboard of the computer will be disabled).
NOTE: There is NO negative marking for a wrong answer in NAT questions.
